Default Reasons for new engine

I am still looking for a V6 for my daughter and came across one that has a new engine with 1,000 miles. It's a 95 with auto tranny. I haven't looked at the car because it's in Duluth GA which is about 2 hours away. I don't want to go if it's a waste of my time.

I want to call but wanted to hear what you guys said first. Oh yeah, one more thing, at what point do you put a new engine into one of these? When it reaches 200,00 miles? The cars in the 94-95 range usually have 120K-150K miles on it.

Thanks!

Denise

I thought you just get rid of v6 stangs when the engine dies... did they rebuild/replace the tranny? wouldn't the tranny have a ton of mileage on it too (not to mention the rest of the car as well)?

Dunno what they did. Haven't called yet. I can't imagine putting a new engine in because the cost of an engine may be the same value of the car.

Define new...newly rebuilt, a 'new' (reconditioned) used motor put in...or brand new as in never been fired up prior to putting into this car? It's more than likely one of the first two. It would be cost prohibitive to put in a brand new motor that year mustang.
The tranny is definitely worth taking a look at too.

94-95-96 were not good years for the V6 mustangs. They had many problems that were fixed in service bulletins and updates in later versions. As for what mileage an engine would need to be replaced...depends on the maintenance and driver. Some never need replacing and some have problems that are always happening.

I would run a Carfax report on it first to see what the title history is and how many owners the car has had. You will need the VIN number from the owner. If the car has had more than two or three owners, I would pass. You wouldn't know about how it's been maintained. It's more cost effective in the long run to buy a car that has been well maintained and pay a little extra, than to let it nickle and dime you in the long run....

I have the VIN# to do a CarFax. But I wanted to see what the experts here had to say before going any further. Why waste $30 on CarFax if it doesn't sound favorable. I probably am going to call the owner this weekend if it's still available on autotrader.

leadfoot, tell the owner of the car to get a carfax. don't buy any car without the carfax info, or you might regret it. Carfax seems to be the only way to learn anything about the past of the car, unless you know the previous owner(s).

One question: how much is this engine?

I would pass on this and have your daughter save for another car swapping engines is expensive unless you already have the necessary tools to do it with (long ****ing list) really there's prolly less agrivation in just buying another car

if the engine was replaced it was either driven into the ground by someone who didnt take care of it or had a ton of miles on it. either of those would mean you prolly need a new tranny, struts, shocks brakes etc. and doing that would cost way more than the car is worth
