hi,
will i be able to get a 1972 351w motor to pass the massachusetts emissions testing? testing here is pretty tight and i am wondering if my 86 mustang will be legal with a motor from 1972, that has no emissions controls at all?

Check with motor vehicles, cars before a certain bulid date don't need to meet emission standards. But it's a 86 o I don't think it will, your going to need a catted mid pipe. Or you can pay someone off. Or you can put your car titled as a collector and drive it 3000 miles a year and you don't have to meet emissions. There's three options. Good luck!

You are going to have to take the test still, but with cats you might be able to get it to pass

That 1972 motor may have the emission style heads on it, because thats when they first started the emission stuff anyway. Like others have said put some cats on the car, tune the motor and it should pass.

if its that old they only do a visual check (at least its that way in NY), so as long as it looks like u have stuff, u shoudlnt have too tough of a time w/ it
