Default Fuel tank question

Guys, my 88 needs a new tank. I have an 84 parts car, but before I go through the trouble of tearing it out of the weeds and removing the tank...I would like to know how likely it is to be compatible. My researsh thus far doesn't seem 2 promising... when viewing new tanks for sale online, the years generally run from 86 - 98 1/2. I know the 84 is a carb car...therefore the fuel pickup at the very least will be different... but are the tanks possibly the same? Thanks for your time guys.

Even if the tanks are the same, the mounting for the pickup and sending unit will most likely be different. Plus, how much cleaning will be involved to remove the crud from the old gas left in the replacement tank.

Pickup and fuel float mounting hardware compatibility is my main concern (after tank compatibility itself of course) Tank prep isn't a big concern. I've time off from work for the next few days and if some aggravation with a chain and some acid sloshing around in a tank is my main obstacle to avoid buying a brand new one...I think I can handle it (though I certainly don't look forward to it)

I went to LateModel Restoration and the tanks are different for pickup location and return, but the shape looks the same. But do you trust those pic's ???

You may want to post this question in the Fox/SN tech section, someone there will know more than me. Good luck

Guys...sorry it took so long but just to let everyone know, the 84 tank fit perfectly . They are identical as far as I can tell save for two features. The 84 tank does not have a seperate mounting hole for the fuel level sending unit. The float and unit are mounted on the pickup tube, and thus only one hole is used, and there is no metal piece inside the tank that "cradles" around where the pump sock is (obviously there's not one as the carb car has a mechanical pump) . So I have no fuel gauge, but at least I'm up and running again.
