Someone else had same Issue and it was chain tensioner.mine has been making that noise 4 a year. Car runs fine except the noise drives u crazy. Shop says 6.5 hr job.quote for repair 1100 dollars. Ouch.I hthink i might try an fix it myselfmyselrepair manual says u need to drop the oil pan,looks like a pain in the ***.Not sure about pan though.noresponse to that question yet.I should just go to Ford for a diagnosis.if I do i will let u know

Please do let me know. I have also been looking into the chain tensioner as I have heard the same.

I will let u know.I have been trying to find out if you need to drop the oil pan to get the timing cover off.no one has replied yet.have heard you need to pull the pick up tube for oil pump which bolts to block inside the oil pan.

I believe the timing cover unbolts right off without removing anything. Just remove serp belt and dampeners then cover. For the 3.8 at least.
