Default Whats a good manual trans to replace stock 4 speed

I have an 82 capri with a nice 351w and the stock trans. I've been told that the stocker won't hold up to any abuse from the 351. So, w/o spending alot of money what would be a good replacement and where would I look? The car isn't going to the track or anything like that. It's not a daily driver either.

Why don't you wait until you break it and then contact American Powertrain or another transmission vendor. Craigslist is also a possibility and there are some Mustang junkyards out there still too.

+1 ^^^

Throw a rebuilt T5 in there. Stay off slicks and 5000 RPM launches and use the clutch for every shift and it'll last longer than the car.
