Straight Dope on Shorty Headers
With the installtion of my alumnium driveshaft and with CMCV delete plates sitting on my workbench waiting for the install, I'm pretty much left with only a handful of other mods with out tearing into the engine or addingablower...which I am not going to do...
Basically I'm left with CMCV deletes, a few things for the suspesion (shocks/springs) and headers. I am reluctant to do long tubes because they are expensive and a pain in the @$$ to install on the garage floor - I'm also concerned about emissions. That leaves me with shorties.
For some reason the search feature is not returning anyresults, but I waswondering if anyone could provide their take on the gains?
5-10 ft lbs, more than that?Does anyone have a dynonumbers or otherfeedback?
For $400 andfewhours in the garage I could live with 5-10ft lbs (hopedully more) versus the $1200+ for a long tube system with a catted X (I'd want an H) and several hours on the garage floor / paying someone to install.

putting in shorties wont yield much hp, maybe 5-10. i would change the midpipe, mac prochamber or o/r h-pipe, and the sound will change dramatically and pick up about the same hp.

I really dont see shortys being much less work. You will still have to jack up the engine and pull both motor mounts to get to the bottom bolts on the exhaust manifolds/headers. And really thats the only hard part of the install well not really hard just a P.I.A. But good luck whichever way you go. I would suggest LTs though.

RE: Straight Dope on Shorty Headers
I got my JBA S/S Shorties on E-Bay for $300., sounded like a good deal. I had them, and the FRPP X-Pipe put in at the same time. I like the end result of this mod, and I don't have to worry about emissions inspection.

i believe the prochamber is o/r, no cats. they say the hp increase is 10-15. but sounds great, deep rumble.
