Default Aluminum drive shaft

Hello Everybody,

I'm thinking of having my stock steel drive shaft changed for an alunimum drive shaft. Has anybody done this and what can you tell me about it...Is it worth the cost and touble or am I wasting good money?

hello rpietro,

if you are trying to free up every possible
horsepower and/or, are wanting to beef
up the driveline because you plan to make
lots of power in the future, then it could
be worth the cost and trouble.

I put a SpyderShaft in my 05 GT Automatic two years ago and it was a good investment IMHO. It takes all the slop and clunking out of the drive line and shaved about .2 off of my ET. There are a lot of brands available out there to choose from so my only advice is choosing a DS is to get one engineered to be an exact fit for your car and not one that needs an adapter of some kind to install it in your car.

Thanks Casey4s. I wanted to hear from someone that actually did the mod.

heres a great link to install one, talk to one of the brothers at shaftmasters, they balance then rotate 180, balance again, any issues they stand behind, plus stock DS weighs about 40 ibs aluminum weighs about 16 lbs

Much smoother with no clunk in my auto. No times to back it up, but feels a little faster. You lose a LOT of weight.

i have a spydershaft, and its great, no problems with it.
but i think if you just do bolt ons and dont go the track, it's not worth it.
like Hammer said, if you plan to do a lot, then it is worth it.

Well the stock shaft does an outstanding job at reducing engine/transmission vibrations. You may have a slight vibration that you can't feel with the stock shaft, but will be quite noticeable with an aftermarket shaft.

It does make your foot feel more connected to the rear wheels.
