Default More Transmission problems with my 2012 GT

I have had the worst experience with Ford and our local dealership- County Ford. I purchased a 2012 Mustang GT and we had had transmission problems. After many weeks of trying to get them to take the car back they have denied our request. Ford advertises American Built but the transmissions are built in China. They brag about their customer service but it’s the worst I have experienced- especially locally. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation. There are many complaints about the transmission on the Mustang forums on the internet and YouTube. There are some lawsuits filed against Ford reference this. My wife and I have no confidence in the car and believe it is not safe. A new $38000 car should not be in the shop for 60 days in the first 4 months of ownership. I’ve made four payments ($559.28 ea.). The first payment made the car was not in our possession. The vehicle broke one week after the second payment was made. The payment on 12/01/11 the vehicle was not in our possession and the last payment on 1/03/12 we had had the vehicle back for only 1 days and the vehicle was parked in our garage. We paid $4000 down, we’ve made four payments totaling $2237.12 at 0% interest. Basically we have spent $6237.12 and have not had the car in our possession for half of the time of ownership. That’s not including insurance and taxes (approximately $50 a month insurance and just paid $293 taxes on car) and title, registration fees and taxes when purchased. That is a lot of money for our family. We have been patient and tried to work this out. After the first repair we accepted an extended warranty. After the transmission locked up while traveling through one of the most busiest intersections we do not feel the car is safe.

Purchased vehicle- 8/16/11.
1st repair-Vehicle was at County Ford for 2 ½ weeks (total) in September-Oct (they evaluated and ordered parts. Took car back to be repaired)
2nd repair- 11/08/11 – 12/23/11 (45 days) **vehicle on lift the entire time. Found out when we picked it up they damaged the Ext housing while attempting to replace bearing-had to wait for parts shipped from China**
3rd repair- 1/11/12-until?

Ford will not buy the car back from us and sadly we will not ever buy another Ford.

So...what, exactly, was wrong with the car?

There is an actual NHTSA summary somewhere posted on the forum (I think this is the right link above). It goes further into detail even concluding that some of the claims were fradulent or people were instructed to say it was a safety issue.

The investigation was closed last month. Sorry to hear about the problems but I find it interesting you decided to post this on a forum (as your first post) with all of the details that you have...

Your implication is exactly why I did not post anything previously. No black Helicopters, no conspiracies. I have not been instructed to say anything or use certain words. We tried to work this out privately for months. We are exhausted and I do not want other people to go through what we have. To answer the question what’s is wrong with the car-it is the transmission. Vibrations and rattling noises within weeks of buying car. The dealership replaced 2nd and 5th gears and a long list of additional parts. Then while driving the car, the transmission locked in 2nd gear and would not come out of 2nd gear. They replaced bearing, housing and another list of additional parts. Picked up the car 12/23/11 and the car is back at the dealership with vibrations and rattling noises. It’s simple-the transmission is a piece of junk! It would seem anyone would be compassionate to the fact we purchased a brand new car and have not been able to drive it and enjoy it and understand how frustrating this situation would be.

Go to the forum at AllFordMustangs.com, join, and contact the Ford Customer Service rep that's assigned to that forum. Maybe they can help you.

I am sure it varies state to state but in general, the lemon law states if you bring a new car in for the same problem 3 times in a row, you can force them to buy it back from you. you may need to reach out to a lawyer for better info.

sorry for your troubles. I am bothered enough to be a couple days without a new car let alone a couple of months. no fun to pay for something you can't enjoy.

I agree. The OP should check his state's lemon laws to see if he qualifies. If yes, during arbitration, depending on what his state allows for lemon law resolution, the dealership might have to buy back the car.

As far as the repair time, in texas, that is nearing lemon law limit for the amount of time a car can be laid up. Though our state I think requires 8 tries form the dealership to try to fix the problem.

Also, as said above, try calling FoMoCo customer relations.
Given the faults of your specif tranny, they should just rip it out and install a totally different brand new MT82, even if they have to wait for one to come from that long boat ride from China.
