Default Need help figuring out exhaust!!!

I fell in love with the sound of the borla S type exhaust with H pipe on the 4.6 motors. The 5.0 seems a bit harder to achieve the "perfect sound" but I have heard a few things that come really close.

Currently I have pulled my mufflers completely off to get an idea of what a muffler delete sounds like. I like the sound but there is a pretty bad drone at 2k rpm (while accelerating, not cruising). Part of this I am assuming is because the exhaust dumps by the axle so there is a lot of noise coming into the car from there.

I would say I want an exhaust with 75% of the volume as having no mufflers at all. (I am not sure how what I have compares to a true muffler delete that actually has the exhaust exit the tips behind the car NOT underneath the car).

My problem is I am on a tight budget so Borla and most big brand cat-backs are OUT!

I do want a power gain so I am considering either an offroad x pipe or offroad h pipe. I know either of the above with muffler deletes is WAY too loud so thats not happening.

One thing I am considering is cutting open the stock mufflers and gutting some of the chambers (or whatever ford uses on the stock muffler). I am thinking about leaving SOME of the muffling material in there as I dont want a true muffler delete knowing I will have an offroad X or H pipe on this car later this year.

Any thoughts?

The one exhaust that sounds really good to me so far is the Heart throb flow pack exhaust. Are these just glass packs??? Worst case scenario I am thinking if MY custom exhaust sounds like crap I can cut the mufflers out and weld in some glass packs to help tone down and mellow out the sound?

That sounds really good to me BUT I dont see me wanting to have as much volume as these would put out PLUS an offroad X or H pipe on top of this. Maybe once I open up the stock mufflers and see whats inside I can just take out a few plates (or again, whatever ford has crammed inside those things) to increase the volume a LITTLE bit for when I put the H/X pipe on.

I wouldnt cut into the stock muffler. You can pick up used axlebacks for a good price.

Well the way I look at it, if I go with an aftermarket catback the stock unit is going in the trash anyway. So if I can modify it and make it sound good all I am out is my time as a buddy has a welder I can use.

Do you have an offroad X or H pipe with the roush axlebacks?

I am worried about going with an axle back as even with the gt500 mufflers paired with an offroad X or H, it seems REALLY loud. And as far as I can tell the gt500 is one of the quieter exhaust systems out there.

No, just the axlebacks and I love the sound. No drone, nice rumble and aggressive under full throttle. I haven't heard any complaints about the Roush.

rOOst is your interested in some flowmaster American thunder axle backs I have some that only have 5k miles on them that I will sell you. No drone at all with these. PM me if interested.
