$850 gears?

Granted, $850 is too much for a parts and labor install.
HOWEVER......
To say $XXX, plus the $200 for parts and oil is what it should be is wrong. All shops make money on parts. They have to. Labor alone is NOT enough to maintain profitability. Shops would need to double their hourly labor rates, if not for parts profit, to keep afloat. Many regular repair shops will not use parts a customer brings in. Two reasons: 1- the profit and 2- the vast majority of those people are the type to blame the shop if the part fails. Thus, causing headaches and heartaches and an untold number of times that person will bitch to others about the place. I will use a customers part ONLY if it is a part I would buy, AND, I will not offer a warranty on the repair. It is printed right on the work order. If the part fails, you will pay again to have it replaced again. The customer will have to go through the same claims procedure I do if a part fails. Its not like you can buy something at Wal-mart, and expect Best Buy to take care of you when it fails. Me supplying the part(s) eliminates that hassle for the customer.
Anyone in business for themselves, no matter what business it is, understands this concept. It is not new.

Sccagt, I understand the whole process but that would be like a 200% mark up, I know everyone's in business to make money but the price doesn't seem competitive have seen other places online advertised to do the gear change from between $550 and $700 parts included with FRPP gears, I just don't know any shops around here that have a good reputation like he 4x4 shop, so I may just pay he extra money for the peace of mind and warranty because they have a excellent track record
