The BOSS does kinda trump a performance oriented t-bird. i still wouldn't mind picking up a 5.0 t-bird as a daily driver. Or better yet. Make a new sedan version and add in the 3.7 out of the mustang in it. Put in a 260 HP 3.7, it will leave room for gear heads to tinker with it, let it put out almost 40 more horses than the impala and deliver better MPG. Put the 3.5 eco-boost in the performance version and call it a Turbocoupe. The nostalgia will be enough to sell the TC since it would be limited production.

I actually loved the last T-bird, although never bought one because I would be kind of embarrassed to drive it! ha.
As for competing with the corvette, I don't think so. The Tbird original was more of a cruiser than a sports car. Make it to beat the Audi A4 vert and other cars in that segment and I think it would do well.

This.
I've always hated the loss of the "Mark VIII" type RWD V8 Lincoln. The entire line needs a shot in the arm and a flagship model. Of course before a flagship ever comes along it needs a supporting cast as they tend to not be able to support themselves financially. They're meant to draw attention to the brand itself, and with increased sales of "lesser" cars comes the $$$ to build top tier models.

If it's going to be another 4 door sedan, I don't see why they should even bother. Having a SHO Taurus and a T-Bird is just... well, a surplus on 'sports sedans'. It's Ford, not BMW. They're not going to drop the Taurus as that's their bread and butter, so it's either they make the T-bird into the old school personal car or some sort of sporty roadster... or don't make it at all.
The '02 birds were a trek back towards the days before being a luxury car, but they didn't sell well. Probably because they appealed only to older women...

Here's a little copy pasta from an older thread on what I think a reborn T-bird should be.
The Thunderbird nameplate lost it's way anything after '57.
What we need is a super sleek, low 3000lb, 2-seater, that's powered by a BOSS302-spec 5.0 to run against the base 'vette,
Then a 2nd tier Thunderbird GT(or whatever suffix you prefer) powered by a 5.8L Coyote to match up with the Z06.
Lastly a new Thunderbird SuperCoupe with a fully built and boosted version of the 5.0 to take on the ZR-1.
