+1

No one will be forced to buy the I4, so who cares if it's offered? Do people complain that a theater plays a movie they aren't going to see anyways?

why all the hate against a 4 cylinder engine. just because it only has 4 cylinders doesn't make it an automatic ricer.

options are good. choice is never a bad thing.

A 4-cylinder Eco-Boost Engine? Ford is just playin with us, like they always do. Shouldn't we be talking about a V8 or V10 engine? LOL

I seriously doubt that. A 4 cyl turbo eco boost will more than likely be popular with the younger tuner crowd. Ford probably feels that they are missing potential sales in that market.

No, they are not playin. The Mustang will be a world car and the 4 cyl will happen. Ford did it before with the SVO in the early 80's and it was popular and still has a good following today.

As far as a v10, not gonna happen. Actually with the potential resizing of the Mustang the current 5.8 v8 in the Shelby may not fit in the new car.

A 310hp 4 banger is pretty damn impressive so if they did pull it off, hats off to FoMoCo engineers. If you can't respect that (regardless of auto manufacturer), then you're a little narrow-minded.

Look at it this way: how does a 310hp turbo I4 dillute the Mustang name? Surely a 200hp turbo I4 would, but if it can compete with stock 3V 4.6s AND get better consumption, who's complaining?

The archaic V8 or nothing dick measuring contest will never die so long as we have people that refuse to join the rest of us in the 21st century.

Get on the band wagon to progress because the auto industry will keep moving forward. Though, I'm sure there will always be room for the classics so long as oil doesn't hit $10/gallon usd.
Archaic.. wow 21st century.. wow

"After the introduction of the 4-cylinder engine used in the Model T in 1908, Ford Motor Company became a pioneer and industry leader in assembled cars. Ford started building more powerful engines with more horsepower and better efficiency than could be used in stock cars, trucks and other vehicles. The Ford Model A engine was introduced in 1928; the Ford Model B engine was introduced in 1933. In 1932, Ford introduced the V8 "flathead" engine that became a favorite choice for hot-rodders and car racing enthusiasts.
Other noteworthy engines throughout Ford's history include the Zephyr 6 in 1951; the Lincoln Y-block, an 8-cylinder engine, in 1954; the Super Duty truck engine in 1958; the British Essex V6 in 1967; the Cologne/Taunus V6 in 1964; the Vulcan V6 in 1986; and the Mondeo V6 in 1994. Ford was also responsible for producing the Duratec 25, a 2.5 L engine in 1994 and the Jaguar AJ-V6, a 3L engine in 2000. Ford's only 10-cylinder engine, the Modular V10, was introduced in 1997. The Aston Martin V12, a 12-cylinder engine, was introduced in the early 2000s."

I don't think anyone is talking about their weiners... If we had hydrogen power cars, that would be different, that would be advanced.. turbocharging a four cyl and calling that advanced... When a motorcycle has more cubic inches than your car...

Just wow...

This much I agree with. And to the extent that it brings in a net increase in interest and sales, a good thing.

You do realize that there's a flip-side or two to that ↑↑↑. Some things still aren't broke, and don't need to be fixed or discarded. A little tweaking, sure. But don't let yourself get so dazzled by the 'new' that you can't still see any validity in the 'old'. Understand also that not everything that's new represents clear forward progress. Balance the starry eyes with a little skepticism, please.

. . . dillute the Mustang name? Surely a 200hp turbo I4 would
Calling the "V8 or nothing" attitude a dick measuring contest is . . . a lot like your dismissal of a 200 HP turbo 4 in comparison to a 310 Hp turbo 4. Don't expect to play that card both ways without being called on it.

This kind of goes back to judging others for how they spent their money.
Doesn't this cut both ways, too?
