Question Alternator wire getting hot

The wire to the alternator on my 2006 Mustang V6 is getting hot enough to burn the plastic off. The connection on the alternator is also turning black from the heat. It seems to have started after I had the battery replaced. I am also getting RPM drops down to 400-500 when I put the car in drive or from drive to reverse. This also started after the battery replacement. Not sure what could be causing it.

I'm not sure what could be causing it, but welcome to the site.

I would not drive the car until you figure this out. This is how electrical fires start.

Did you replace the battery, or someone else?

I found out through testing the alternator that it got extremely hot at the connection for the wire when a load was placed on it. Replaced the alternator and I think that problem is fixed.* I still have low RPMs when it is placed in gear and when the a/c cycles on. Low enough that the car shudders.* The battery was replaced at O'Reilly's. I think the bad alternator killed it.
