Default Seafoam

I have a 1999 GT Convertible with 45,500 original miles that has been sitting for over years that I have brought back to life. After many new parts and countless man hours it runs. It had a rusty gas tank (which was replaced as well as the pump & filter) with old rusty gas in the lines and through injectors so I added a whole can of Seafoam to the fuel tank that had maybe 5 gallons of fresh gas in it not reading the instructions properly. Now it has a rough idle almost like a miss and billowing out smoke. What should I do to help clear this up? Run it out before I fill up the gas tank or should I dilute it and drive it for a while? Also would this do any long term damage? I already cleaned the fouled plugs which stopped it from stalling.

Welcome to the forum.

For more technical advice, try starting a new thread in the appropriate Tech section, you'll get more responses.

As for the SeaFoam, you'll be fine with that ratio for this tank. It's supposed to be added to a minimum 8 gallons of gas, but 5 will still be fine.

What color is the billowing smoke ?

thanks for the reply. The smoke is white. I know it's not coolant as it doesn't have a sweet smell. Has a more chemical smell which I believe to be the seafoam.

Monday I plan on registering it and driving it around to burn it out. Hope I don't get pulled over from all the smoke that may blind people.

lol, but even at that ratio, it shouldn't smoke at all. Are you sure it's not just condensation in the exhaust. I don't know if it gets cool enough at night down there in the south for that though.

At any rate, if your sure it's not coolant, I'd drive it. I bet it'll clear up in a couple miles.

Yeah it's def. not condensation. I drove it up the road and there was a 10 foot smoke cloud behind. LMAO!! It's white and I know it's not a coolant smell. Has a strange chemical smell so I'm sure it's the seafoam just want to make sure it's safe to drive.
