Muffler replacement w/Stock pipes

Muffler replacement w/Stock pipes
I am planning on replacing my stock mufflers with a pair of Flowmaster 40's. I am intending to use the stock exhaust pipes. My question is has anyone here done this? The process looks like it should be fairly simple on the inlet side, but the exit where the tailpipe begins to curve up almost immediately out of the muffler looks like a little more difficult situation. How to you get a good connection here?
Also, I am puchasing the flows with 2.25" inlet and outlet, can someone confirm this is correct for the stock pipes, and further will the inlet and outlet portion of the muffler slide into or over the existing stock pipes?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Muffler replacement w/Stock pipes
Well 2.25 pipe wont slide into a 2.25 muffler because its the same diameter. You need to get 2 1/2" mufflers and fill it in with weld, but you would be better off with with the whole catback and a good X pipe. You are not going to be happy with 40's on a stock system at all. I made the exact same mistake you are about to make. I wasted three hundred dollars on those things and I couldnt even hear them until I got a good mid pipe.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I'll take your advice and just buy the full catback system. My reasoning was, the car is stock now, can't imagine that the 1/4" increase in pipe diameter would make a noticable difference on the car. I am (at this time) 100% concerned with the sound. I already have the sawzall and access to the welder.
Thanks again

Don't do it!!! You'll be dissapointed!!! I just welded 40 series flows on my stock exhaust and can't wait to tear them off and put on a full cat back. It's a total waste of money, trust me on this one and learn from my mistake...Just go with a full cat back!
