I'm with Dan on this one. Don't count on doing it yourself and actually making it work "right", especially if you've never done it before, for under a grand. I can imagine it would take a huge mass of time to complete the job, and you know the saying "time is money". You'll end up spending a grand worth of your time! LOL My opinion, it would be best to maybe shop around and buy a used one, or even save up and buy a new one, which will be under the manufacturer warranty, just in case. Not worth the time wasted trying to do it myself in my opinion.

I vote nitrous. You'll have to fab the headers and piping, it's not a good project for a first-timer.

You can buy a used turbo from an 18 wheeler for about 100 bucks and find an intercooler for about 150.00 used! All you have to do is fab the headers and exhaust!

Its a joke guys!

Your joking right? All you need is a welder.

I say go to DSM trader.com and get a nice 14b turbo or 13g turbo for about 100.00, they are everywhere. 13g's are TD04 turbos and 14b's are TD05 turbos so they arent interchangeble.......
You can find a nice intercooler for 400-500 bucks and do all the piping yourself.

13g's and 14b's are kinda small but you can push 18+psi with virtually no lagg. They are good and very cheap. If I were gonna go the cheap way and do all that hard work thats what I would do.

It is very doable!!!! You cant have no in your heart!(Joe Dirt)

Default RE: budgeted turbo. please help!

My tt setup price:

1. Used Intercooler $25 (If you plan on running over 5psi)
2. 2 Used Bovs $5 a piece (highly recommended to prevent surge which causes turbo damage & throttle damage, but not needed)
3. (N) 2 used oil cooled turbos w/ integral wastegates $40 a piece (turbos with integral wastegates are cheaper because you don't have to buy wastegates aswell however integral = less powa!)
4. (N) Intake pumbing & seals $70
5. (N) header flanges & mandrel bends $130
6. (N) 2 boost controllers $10 each
7. 3" used bus exhaust $30 (If you want it to be loud you can go without )
8. (?) FPR $80
9. (?) FMU $60
10. Guages $150 (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to make sure you don't overboost)
11. (N) Oil lines, & adaptors $40
12. (N) Gaskets $80 (you can use your OE ones if you are very careful)
13. (N) Fuel pump $80
14. Injectors $120
About a month after it had been running I bought a turbo timer because I got tired of waiting a min to let the turbo cool before I could turn it off. $150 & If you have to you can eliminate some of that. Things NEEDED are marked with an (N). You have to choose between an FMU or FPR. It's a good Idea to have both.
Edit: as far as tools needed. You will need some common wrenches & sockets. A metal cutter, & welder. I'm not sure If a dremel will cut it for the metal cutting device. Mabey If you got a decent sized cutting wheel.
