Is this true??
On my ride I have a ram air set up that draws the air in below the front bumper. I got caught in a rain storm at night and drove through a puddle that was a foot deep with water. When I got home I immediately disasembled my intake system fearing that I had ruin my mass airflow sensor and my IAT sensor to my surprise my k&n didn't even look like it got wet. I totaly submerged my scope in water and it never got any water up to my filter. I therefore think it is 99.9% impossible to hydrolock your motor driving through puddles.(unless that puddle turns out to be a lake)

You've got two people who have friends who did hydrolock their motors in this thread.
My friend was driving down the street and went through a puddle that might have been ~3" deep.
Some intakes have holes in them to allow air to enter if the main opening were to get blocked (stock stuff usually).
If you're worried, take your foot off the throttle and coast through the puddle. At idle there isn't nearly enough vacuum to suck water up the intake tract.
