I'm pretty new to cars and I am wanting to change my exhaust. I'm thinking about cutting out my exhaust from the cats all the way to the exhaust tips and just replacing it with simple turnouts and having them dump the exhaust down in near the center of the car. Bad idea? Good idea? Any suggestions?

Really bad idea. Think about sitting in traffic and sucking in all that exhaust sitting under you.
