2008 Saleen Sterling Edition S302E 6

RE: 2008 Saleen Sterling Edition S302E 6
[sm=exactly.gif] I'm thinking I'd sell as many 100K mustangs as I could, but that's just me! I'm as much of a Saleen enthusiast as the next guy, but c'mon, 100K. The problem becomes that the more cars they produce, the less exclusive they are. A 100K car w/o exclusivity is just a really expensive Mustang and definately not worth it. Saleen, as a producer, will only see the money when they are sold new.Steve isn't there any more, so does the new management really care about exclusivity (doubt it, look at how many "special additions" they have out there now). Question is, do they make their money and call it a day (business sense says "yes")or keep the exclusivity of the brand. Hmmm... Thoughts?

Another way to look at it is that with the various model series offered, it gives exculsivity by offering a diverse range of Mustangs that proclaim upfront that it's "1 of 25," "1 of 500," "1 of etc."
The special editions are not adding to a greater production number for the year. I would look at it more like it's creating more diversity in the established output.
One thing the history does, it fades the reality of the past. If Saleen Autosport could have produced 1,000 vehicles in 1988... they would have. If they could have sold/ built 100 SCs in 1990... they would have. People might forget about the SSCs, SCs sitting on dealer floors for a year or two... S351s sitting two-three years... 2002 E cars sitting 18-36 months, which one can say caused the 2003-04 E production to drop (maybe). Off the top of my head, the only versions I can think of that was purposely kept limited was the SVT Cobra conversions, and the SAs.
It also depends on if one wants to call the 2007 PJ a limited car at 500 units.
Anyway... sometimes the exculsivity came by way of production limitations and at others a market that was not going to support these vehicles.

I dont think Saleen could or would sell 100 of these. It removes the exclusivity by selling 100. You might as well buy an RF (there will 100 of those too). Also, I am not sure if there are 100 people wanting to spend $100k on a mustang. At that price, I would buy a GT3 or the new ZR1. At least, those cars come with a 3 year warranty. I think at the $100k price point, Saleen should offer the 3 year warranty on the engine.

I think the comment about producing 100 units was tongue-in-cheek humor.

Your a bad bad man Say When.. stirring up trouble all over the place.
However there may be some validity to the above statements. Steve is no longer here so while there is exclusivity to total number of cars as compared to other manufacturesmade there is becoming a trend that Saleen is now in where they offer a multiple "styles" of Exclusivity. Look at PJ's Look at RF's look at Heritage Editions, Trucks. Yes that particular "model" may be considered Exclusive, it still goes against a total build number of say 15-1800 cars. However I thought Saleen said last year there was going to be a limit going forward of total cars built and they would now be grouped by the particualr model as I listed above? I thought I read where that cap was 1500 total cars regardless ofthe "model". Since I don't believe total numbers are released anymore or at least our folks here have not been able to get a total production runsince I guess the 06 year we may never know.
I also think that some of this percieved "saturation" of the Saleen Market is due to the multiple offerings of diffent styles. Like I listed above. What will tell all of us whether Saleen is running this as a Business and a Limited ownership experience is if we could get actual total build numbers. Otherwise we don't know if they have made 2000 cars 1000 cars?
Just my 2 cents.
Peace.
One last point. I think that car above is the 25th anniversary Edition. There may have been a limit in the past to not doing more then 10 cars for an anniversary, the market and production capabilty will dictate if 25 cars can be sold.I also think there are more "Collectors" out there with the financial means to buy that type of car then there used to be. Foolish or not for buying a 100k Mustang if I could I probably would is the old axciom.
Ok I am done now.. I promise.
