Chance to buy a Saleen, need help (fairly urgent)
Hey all,
I own a 2005 Mustang GT Prem right now and love it to death but the dealer down the road happened to get a Saleen and I fell in love
Its a 2001 basic saleen (non super or anything) #403. Its dead sexy in all...37,000 miles on it. No accidents or anything like that.
They are asking $20,999 for it....what do you all think? Is that fair? High? Low? Average? Its bone stock nothings been done, 3 owner car. Its clean, but I need to do a more detailed inspection when I go back.
Now after you answer this...for those who know the 01's well...what type of HP can I get out of it max on a stock block? I was going to ultimately supercharge my 05 and keep the stock block and everything, what can I get out of the 01? Fairly close? Not even close? I dont know much about these so I am hoping all of you can help me out I just may become a proud Saleen owner shortly!
Im sure ill ask tons more questions before I decide yes or no on it...but I like what I see, just want all of your opinions since you all own them.
Thanks a ton guys,
-Sean
Oh also, what am I looking for as far as maintenance goes? @ 37k miles, what/how much needs to be done and looked at and at which miles? Once again...thanks a ton for your help guys.

With an unforged motor you're looking at close to the same HP in terms of what you'll be able to get. In terms of cost, though....I would figure it would be easier to get there with your current car.
That's a little too high of a price for a non-supercharged saleen. Check out www.saleenls.com to see what some of those cars are listed for.
The market is poor right now...so you should be able to snag a good deal on a saleen if you want one.
If you're looking for just power....save your money and invest it in your current car (or get a terminator cobra and go nuts). If you're looking for the saleen look....buy the one you're looking at (or a similar one).

i have a 2003 saleen convertible s/c that i bought used with 16,000 a year 1/2 ago for 22,000. i think that price is a bit high for that car especially as slow as the car market is you should be able to get that price down. the most you would be able to put on that stock block is 400 at the wheels.
