Default C4 Options, Manual Valve Body, Trans Cooler, Trans Brake, and shifter?

Hey guys... My c4 was leaking and making a grinding noise around 2800 RPM's in 3rd gear. I dropped it off at my buddy's shop and they're fixing it up for me. So far they replaced the broken trans mount and fixed a few leaks. But the pan is leaking too, so i figure while they're in there i might as well throw a manual valve body in there.

Also, my shifter doesnt lock into gears at all, and i've bumped it into reverse more times than I care to admit...

It's an 84 with 4.10 gears, and already has a shift kit installed. I do a lot of highway driving, so the no OD really sucks, but I keep it in the right lane and try to keep it under 3100rpms.

What do you recomend for a valve body? What about a trans brake? Should I think about a trans cooler since I do a lot of highway driving? Also throw some shifter recomendations at me...

Thanks in advanced guys!

The problem with it not locking into gears correctly is in the shifter. If you remove the cover around the handle you can see where the shifter locks into each gear.

This is the cooler I have and it worked great with my c4

Here are your options about valvebodies from summit that include a trans brake.

I would get this though. Its a auto/fullmanual valve body meaning that you can leave it in drive and let it do its thing or you can shift and leave it in any gear for however long you want.

BUT for the full manual I would just get this one.

While the trans is out you might as well also throw in a stall converter too....

Turbo-Action makes the best shifter for your C-4 that there is.
I use a P-A full manual valve body, works fine.
The thing with the full manual valve body is that you MUST shift it,
if it's in say second, it will stay there forever until you pull the handle
for third.
It's a true 'race only' type part.......

I ended up purchasing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-521000/

along with a hurst quaterstick with the white ball, and a leather boot.

Should be fun

Didnt have enough cash for a stall right now... maybe down the road
