Default V6 to GT rear end swap?

How difficult of a process is this? What do I need to fully complete this swap, and do I need to get a re-tune for my SCT? What is the normal price range for a 8.8" out of a salvage yard? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Welcome to the site.

It's a direct swap if you stay within your cars generation, do a search, this issue has been discussed almost weekly.

You can find one for around $300-600 generally. It is a direct swap in. No need for a retune.

The only time you will have a problem is when you get a 8.8 out of a 94-98, the upper control arm bolt is a 12mm on 94-98 and on a 99-04 8.8 it is a 14mm.

Someone correct me if im wrong but Im pretty sure Im right.

Lower Control arm mount is a 12mm bolt in 94-98, 14mm in 99-04

On that note---Is the width the same on 94-98 and 99-04?

it's like 1/2" or 1" short something like that.

the older ones are 1" shorter OVERALL, so 1/2" spacers are needed on each end to compensate.

Don't forget the axels are a little shorter on the 94-98 years, thats the problem i ran into with my rear end without staying in the same year, unless your rear end comes with axels if you buy the 94-98 then youll be good, but if they dont then youll need to get shorter axels or your axle seals wont be sealed properly.

So cheaper imo to find the same year range rear end, long story short.
