Default 91 5.0 mustang Clunking in rear end? Exhaust leak?

I need help trying to figure out what is causing the clunking noise in the rear end area and you feel it only when decelerating. The rear end also has 3:55 ring and pinion ratio so it has been upgraded and I know cause I counted and divided the two numbers when I changed the fluid. Also I don't really hear any whining noise from the rear end it's hard to tell if it would be whining cause exhaust is loud. What could it be?

Exhaust leak- so hooker headers and bbk x pipe. Now the right side header has an exhaust leak where the pipe and header meet so i tightened the two bolts (which needed some tightening) and it went away for a little but then came back and the exhaust leak is pretty loud too. Like i was able to tell it went away but then came back. I'm guessing the bolts are coming loose. what can I do about that?

New Nuts and Bolts and double nuts, stainless steel if you can. Or aircraft style self locking, not the nylon type. Or drill the nut and safety wire them. If the nuts coming loose is all it is.

And trying to explain a clunking noise over a forum is hard to to. Just one of those things where you have to be there to hear it. I'd start by getting under there and poke around. Looking for exhaust rubs, broken hangers, worn out bushings, etc.

Default Hey thank you guys for replying to this post

So Im heading to advance auto and lowes to go get bolts for the exhaust. I mights put a flange gasket too. I noticed some people have gaskets there in the exhaust while others dont. Second thing...I replaced all control arms and bushings on rear end. Then i also tried to move the driveshaft up and down but seems pretty good. Like theres no play in the u joints.

Wells guys i never got the new bolts because when i went to check it. They were good. They didnt loosen up. Now the exhaust leak isnt as loud as it was before but is still leaking at the flange area.

Sounds like you need to get the flange gaskets after all. If your still hearing the banging sounds though back to what 88 orangepeel notch replied -
