Default misfire

i have an 03 mustang 130k miles on it. just recently changed plugs and wires about 4 or 5 months ago. drove through some standing water and ive had a misfire ever since then. i have no warning lights on or error codes. it does it only under acceleration and usually at low rpm. desperately need help with this.

on another note ive had a persistent problem for now the 3rd yr. during winter months when the weather starts warming up the car will not start unless i push the gas pedal and hold it down. if i let off the pedal it will immediately drop rpms and die.

not sure if both these problems can be related

I remember reading about something similar to this a few months ago...Idk as much about cars as most people on here, but I'll give it a shot.

Considering that you said that you need to press the pedal down to crank it, I would assume its something with your fuel filter or fuel pump. They could be a little stopped up and preventing proper flow. A fuel filter really isn't expensive at all to fix and it's really easy to replace, so I would try replacing that (it doesn't hurt to change it every now and then either).

Just noticed you said you drove through some water...How much water are you talking about? Because there are some places you REALLY dont want to have water in...

But like I said, I'm no expert. I wouldn't go 100% off of what I say.

Before you put on the fuel filter, yes you need to depressurize it. Otherwise you will have fuel leak all over the place.

Here are some pretty decent instructions to changing your filter:

Just make sure to unhook the battery and depressurize. The rest of it is the easiest thing in the world.

About the water: I'm not too sure about things once you get the far into it. That's going to need some further opinion from other people on here.
