Default 2000's fuel milage?

So, I have heard many rumors and I can probably confirm that the 2000 model gets not so good fuel mileage comparatively. Why do y'all think that is? Most people here say they get around 22-24 mpg. I'm lucky if i get 20 with highway driving and a light foot. Have y'all had any experiences in this matter as to why it would be so different?

Could be any number of things.

Fouled plugs
Inadequate spark
Brakes dragging
Bad bearings
Etc....
