Default Rubbing Sensation when Turning

So, I’ve been having an issue for several days but haven’t been able to find information online as to what it may possibly be. I have a plastic rubbing sensation and a slight plastic rubbing sound (imagine wearing latex gloves on both hands and rubbing them together) sometimes when I turn the wheel. It suddenly happened one day, drove it to the bank, went inside, when I came back out it was doing this. Yesterday I did a power steering flush, used Motorcraft Mercon ATF just as stated in the manual and did the hand turn method (turned the pulley to the power steering pump) while my mom turned the wheel back and forth we did this until the fluid coming out was the same color as going in. When up on the jack and turning the wheel it didn’t have this rubbing sensation but when I took it down it did but it also doesn’t always do this. I’m looking for possibilities of what’s going on or even how/what to troubleshoot.

Pump might be dying. So it does this even when sitting still and turning the wheel correct? Just trying to rule out wheel rub.

When it does do it, yeah, it'll do it even when sitting still idling or parked.

Sounds like the pump either has air in the system or is just finally giving out. Are you losing fluid at all?

That's my guess, ^^^ Air in the system. Ford systems are notorious for getting air bubbles. You may want to try picking up a vaccum pump kit and putting the PS system under a slight vacuum to see if you can get out any trapped air.

What exactly did you put into the PS system? Mercon/Mercon V/Dextron? They are not necessarily interchangeable.

I haven't been losing any fluid, not at a noticeable level anyways been checking it about once a day.

I had to go to the Ford dealership in order to get Mercon since all stores near me sold was the dex or dex/merc They said I needed Mercon V for the power steering. That's what I went with.

It doesn't seem as though the rubbing sensation/sound has gotten better or worse since the flush. I initially did it because my fluid was a brown color and thought maybe it was linked to the rubbing sound/sensation.
