Wheel well size difference in 87-89/90-93??
I was on this other Mustang forum today lookin around, and someone stated that the wheel wells are smaller in 87-89 and a tiny bit bigger in 90-93 (and no one corrected the persons statement)..??? Is this true? They all look the same to me...

I've read that same thing for the past 5 years or so, so when a good friend of mine bought a 92 GT (I have an 89 GT) I decided check to make sure what I'd been reading was correct.
I now can confirm without any doubt that the 91 has a shorter area in the front part of the fender than the 89 does.
By measuring both the 89 and the 92 the 92 is exactly 3/4" shorter than the 89 is.

from late 90 to 93, the wheel openings were bigger on the front fenders because they switched from the 15" wheels to the 16's. my black 90 GT has 'em 'cause it was built in late 1990 and had 16" Ponys. my white 90 GT didn't, it was an early 90 car with 15" turbine wheels.

Wow, weird! So from the front of the wheel well, to to front bumper is actually a bit shorther [making the wheel well a bit bigger] on the 90 or 91-93 then eh? So not all front fenders are universal then obviously 87-93..?

From Mustang GT. Org
To the unpracticed eye, it was getting nearly impossible to tell one year’s GT from another with only minor changes from 1987-1990. Ford changed that for 1991 with the addition of attractive new 5-spoke 16x7 inch aluminum wheels sporting the classic tri-bar running horse logo.

Just happened to run across this thread and its rather old, but as far as I know the 90 Mustangs never had the star wheels that were introduced in 1991.
I have a 90 GT that I bought on the anniversary date (April 17th 1990) which is towards the later part of the production year.
It of course has the turbine 15 inch wheels.
The 91 with the Star wheels were 16 inch.
The 90's had the 4 lugs and the 91's were 5 lug patterns.
So I would say that its possible the 91-93 may have had the larger wheel wells.

The 91 Star wheels were 4 lug, not 5.
I have seen older Stangs wearing the turbine as well as the star wheels.

Wow, I know this is an old thread but there is no difference in the wheel wells of the 87-90 and 91-93. The difference is only on the fender extensions on the GT cars only.
The LX cars are identical from 87-93
