This twin-turbo S550 Ford Mustang proves that this platform remains incredibly capable even if it isn’t the new shiny object anymore.

The S650 Ford Mustang debuted for the 2024 model year, and since then, the latest pony car has somewhat dominated the news, as one would expect. After all, it is the proverbial shiny new objects that tend to catch our attention, and the S650 is no exception to that rule. Lest we forget, however, that model’s predecessor – the S550 Ford Mustang – is still a pretty competent machine that’s capable of doing some amazing things when it comes to churning out massive power and ripping off seriously quick passes at the drag strip.

All of that is clearly on display in this recent video from Dragy Motorsports, too.

In this particular clip, we’re treated to some in-car Dragy video of an S550 Ford Mustang that was put together by Midnight Performance and tuned by Lund Racing. It’s what one might call a full-tilt creation too, as it’s equipped with a fully-built 5.0-liter Coyote V8 packing two Precision PT6870 turbochargers pushing a whopping 30 psi of boost through the proven mill. With ethanol running through its veins, that combination is good for an eye-opening 1,800 horsepower at the crank, or around 1,620 at the wheels.

Given that tremendous amount of power, the owner opted to mate his monster mill with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, rather than try to beef up a less-proven gearbox, which is understandable. Regardless, as we can see in this video, that combination is what one might call potent – as it posts some seriously impressive numbers in 60-130 and 100-150 mph acceleration testing on the street.

[Editor’s Note: this behavior is extremely stupid; please don’t drive these speeds at night on public roads with your Mustang.]

In fact, on the first rip, the boosted S550 Ford Mustang takes a mere 3.36 seconds to rip from 60-130, and just 2.67 seconds to cover 100-150 mph. In the second go-round, we see the pony car accelerate from 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) to 200 km/h in a mere 2.98 seconds, and 200 km/h (124 mph) to 250 km/h (155 mph) in just 1.90 seconds – seriously mind-boggling numbers, indeed.

What makes these results even more appealing is the fact that the S550 Ford Mustang has become somewhat of a bargain as of late, which makes sense given the presence of the all-new S650, coupled with the fact that there are tons of these cars out there for the taking. Obviously, this car has some money in it, but we’ve also seen our fair share of budget builds that are quite capable as well, meaning that the S550 is primed to remain the apple of enthusiasts’ eyes for years to come.
