1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Restomod: Video

Over-the-top performance and an understated exterior? Perfect.

Few cars are more iconic than a 1965 Mustang Fastback. And RK Motors in Charlotte, North Carolina is back with another excellent video of a fine example they’re selling.

First off, this modified fastback looks terrific. Clearly, the builder knew not to mess with perfection. There’s simple black paint job, a subtle hood scoop (courtesy of the famous Shelby GT350), and staggered five-spoke polished aluminum wheels. The Shelby-inspired look is complemented by subtle grey rocker stripes.

This beautiful Mustang benefits from a decade-old $200,000 restoration. It’s since amassed several trophies and magazine features. But this car’s beauty is far more than skin deep. In fact, there’s a lot going on under the surface.

Powered by a Vortech-supercharged Ford Racing 302, this Mustang puts out over 440 horsepower. That’s just enough power to be fast and fun without being too overpowered. A Tremec TKO five-speed transmission handles gear-changing duties. That horsepower makes its way to the ground via a custom DANA 44 rear end with an Auburn locking diff and 3.55 gears.

But all that power is useless without the means to control it. If we’re being honest, suspension and brakes are usually the weak points of most muscle cars. Thankfully, this Mustang has upgrades like four-wheel power disc brakes, electrically-assisted rack and pinion power steering, and a custom suspension. Up front, a Mustang II suspension with 2″ drop spindles augments a beefy 1″ thick sway bar. Adjustable coilovers are at all four corners.

In all, there’s probably no better powertrain for a classic Mustang. Its custom interior, modern audio system, and air conditioning make it a great summertime cruiser. It’s sure to draw just the right amount of attention too.
