What Does A 1966 Mustang GT Mean To You?

Mister Regular’s co-writer and producer Roman recalls a date with a girl named Rochelle and a classic 289 Mustang.

Ford’s first-generation Mustang was such an incredibly popular car that it had literally sold a million units by 1966. By the late 1960s, the Mustang was everywhere you looked. To put it mildly, it was a hit, and it makes sense. Compared to the staid and plain styling of the Falcon it was based on, the Mustang was seen as youthful and stylish when it launched.

In our opinion, it still ranks among the prettiest cars Ford has ever built. But this video from Regular Car Reviews paints a slightly different picture of the classic Mustang. Roman (an SN95 owner) doesn’t seem to have the same rose-colored view of the good old ‘Stang that we do. Check out the video to see what we mean.

Roman, it seems, doesn’t much care for the first-gen Mustang. Sure, it handles a bit like an old truck, and the power delivery isn’t exactly going to set the world on fire, even compared to a modern compact sedan. But it might do him some good to show a little respect for his elders. He laments things like the high-beam switch on the floor and the emergency flasher switch in the glove box. He also takes heed of contemporary lukewarm reviews from Motor Trend.

While Roman’s review is less than flattering, we’re absolutely enamored with this great blue beauty. We could handle cruising with all four windows down in this awesome nostalgia bomb. What’s your take on this? Is Roman more right than wrong? Do you disparage seeing your great Mustang’s name dragged through the mud like this? Weigh in with your comments on the forum.
