Enthusiasts in Australia like what enthusiasts in America like. Burley V-8 up front, power to the rear wheels – they get us. Unfortunately, like in America, the brutish sedans that follow this simple formula aren’t selling as well as they once were. Noted in the Drive.com.au video review below, the Holden Commodore is on its way out, and so too is the Ford Falcon (not reviewed), a cause for great lamentation. Thankfully for the Aussies, Ford has decided to bring the Mustang down under.

It may seem odd to compare four-door sedans to a two-door coupe, but in Australia, where the Mustang is growing in popularity, there aren’t many other offerings, unless you want to bring in a Ute. The Camaro isn’t going down under anytime soon, so this really is the best competition they have to offer.

If you’re willing to wait until 2017, the projected wait time to get a new Mustang in Australia, you will have your choice between the EcoBoost and the 5.0-liter V-8 powered GT; both are available in coupe and convertible forms. The Australians can also choose between 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual gearboxes. The only thing our island brothers from the Southern Hemisphere are not getting are driver controls on the proper side of the car.
