7th-Gen, 2020 Mustang News: Code Name S650!

The S550 has barely just arrived, but even as it continues to be celebrated all over our magazine and Internet pages, the new S650 7th-generation Mustang has been spurred into production, two whole years ahead of schedule, according to a MustangG6.com forum post.
Here’s what we can discern: Instead of the scheduled release of the S650 Mustang in January 2022, the start of production has been pushed ahead nearly two years to May of 2020. This may be due in part to the recent success of the 6th-gen Camaro, a battle in which the Mustang has always had a healthy lead (and may want to ensure it stays far ahead).
This also means that the end of S550 production will happen in April 2020, rather than December 2021. Quite sad, since this is one of the more shapely and desirable Mustang generations to ever come out. However, it is safe to assume with the new S650 that all of the technology and advancements from the S550 will carry over. Independent rear suspension will likely stay, but power plants are yet to be nailed down. Will it carry over the 5.0 and the EcoBoost 4 cylinder? Will the EcoBoost 6 cylinder find it’s way under hood?
We will let you know as soon as we find out.
