Honda-Powered Fox Body: See it to Believe It

Fox Body Honda

“Unekualed’s” Fox Body Frankenstein is something to behold.

Quick, think of the single-most blasphemous thing you could ever do to a Mustang. If you said power-slide it into something while leaving Cars and Coffee, sorry, but that happens much too often. You can do better.

Honda-Powered Fox Body

No, the single-most demoting thing you can do to a Mustang would be to lose a race to a Honda. Honda fanboys, as you know, are the sworn enemies of all Ford pilots, but the shifty-fifty Fox Body crowd and Civic drivers fight like pirates vs. ninjas. Now, think outside the box, and you’ll reach peak Mustang insult. That’s what Facebook user Unekualed has achieved — except it’s not. It’s actually quite good.

Today Ford makes what’s essentially a four-cylinder Mustang. It’s called the Ecoboost, and it exists so Ford can sell the image of environmental friendliness in a solid-performing package. It’s not a bad car. Before it, there was the Mustang SVO, the original boosted four-cylinder Mustang and a cult classic today.

So it’s not unprecedented for a Mustang to use a four-banger, but what is unprecedented is for America’s favorite pony car to get a heart transplant from a front-drive Acura. That’s right, Unekualed has dropped a K-series Honda motor into a 5.0 body.

Not only did he take advantage of all that extra space with a super-clean build, but he mounted the high-revving Honda longitudinally for extra points. The motor appears to have significant upgrades like beefy 2000cc injectors, custom pistons and top-end and a one-off intake runner. We’re willing to bet it develops about the same number of ponies as a healthy Ecoboost, if not more.

But this engine won’t be breathing hard at high altitudes looking for boost, because it’s a traditional atmospheric Honda power plant. That means linear power delivery that breaks hearts, just like the hashtag suggests. Just when Honda thought it was safe to do a boosted type R, this guy shows up to remind us all the best ways to go fast.
