This Modified Street Machine, Dubbed the DragNFly, Impresses at Street Car Takeover

Judging from a recent Street Car Takeover event, it’s hard to deny the practicality of dropping a Chevy LS engine into a Fox Body Mustang. The naysayers will point to how wrong it is to outfit a Ford with a Chevy engine. But the advantages are hard to ignore. And this video enforces why it is such a popular conversion.

So, what are the advantages of an LS engine swap in a Mustang body? Mainly that it’s both cheap and easy to make it go fast. The Fox Body Mustang is one of the lightest, cheapest, and best laid-out race platforms for accepting many different sized engines. While the LS is affordable, readily available, and capable of dishing out a ton of power in stock form.

With the oversized 91 mm turbo under the modified hood, the DragNFly Mustang turns a lot of heads at the Street Car Takeover. First it shows its stuff at the horsepower test, where it registers 891 HP on its first attempt, and then a whopping 1057 HP on its second try.

The real action happens during the drag races though. It dominates the competition, making some very fast cars look rather pedestrian. After a bye in the first round, DragNFly embarrasses a newer model Mustang so badly it hit the brakes and eased off halfway through the race. The next victim is a nitrous-boosted Trans-Am. Judging from its dash cam, the car never had a chance. All you see is the DragNFly disappearing into the night.

The final race is up against another Fox Body Mustang, but the result is the same. Once the smoke clears, and the roar of the engines fades, DragnFly and his single turbocharger show that the Fox Body Mustang-LS engine combo is a force to be reckoned with.
