This Hot ‘71 Restomod Could Be Yours for a Mere $125K

Anytime we hear about a so-called “tribute” in the world of Mustangs, we’ve come to expect big things.

Why? Well, because Mustang fans don’t take the idea of any “tribute” lightly. In other words, if you’re going to classify a ‘Stang in that category, it better be something really special.

That said, this ‘71 Mustang Mach 1, originally built to pay homage to the discontinued Shelby GT500 of 1970, certainly is a deserving tribute, in more ways than one.

The car, owned by Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, has been modified with a 725-horsepower, supercharged 502 cubic-inch big block Chevrolet V8, as highlighted in a Maxim report. In addition, the car’s original leaf springs and rack-and-pinion steering suspension have been swapped out for a four-link coilover rear suspension, in order to improve road performance.

The sinister-looking Mach 1, dubbed the Machstang, also features massive, true to the ‘70s era, 12-inch-wide rear tires, as well as lightweight molded plastic front and rear bumpers to replace the steel factory units. And don’t forget the mega 700-watt Alpine sound system.

This hot Mustang mod could be yours if you can come up with somewhere between $95,000 to $125,000 between January 6 – 15. That’s when the Machstang is scheduled to cross the auction block at Mecum Auctions’ Kissimmee, Florida. It would certainly make one hell of a late Christmas gift for any Mustang fan.
