Shelby Cobra Go-Kart Seeks Good Home Track

Half-Scale Shelby Cobra Go-Kart

Of the many vehicles and automobilia up for auction during Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas stop, this Shelby Cobra go-kart is a rare ride.

Always wanted a Shelby Cobra in your garage, but either can’t find one, can’t afford one, or don’t want to hit up a kit car manufacturer to build one? If you happen to have room for a go-kart, and you happen to be in Las Vegas near the end of September, you just might be able to snag one of the coolest (and rarest) karts around.

The world-famous Barrett-Jackson auction house is making its next stop on the 2018 schedule at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Vegas September 27 through 29, where hundreds of awesome cars and tons of automobilia will hit the block, including this super-rare half-scale Shelby Cobra go-kart.

There may only be one photo of Lot #8261 (thus, the photos from a couple of Cobras up for bid at the same auction), but as they say, a photo speaks a thousand words. The half-scale go-kart, based on the Shelby 427 Cobra, is the seventh such example hand-built in limited quantities by Madison Mini Cars. The Le Mans Blue paint and white stripes are “show quality,” which likely means this go-kart hasn’t seen any track action in quite some time.

Not that it isn’t ready to throw down should its new owner decide to take the Cobra kart out for track day. The MSX model kart has a Briggs & Stratton racing engine limited to a top speed of 35 mph, and the “disc brake” will slow the kart around the tight corners. As Barrett-Jackson says, the half-scale Shelby Cobra “runs like a dream!”

And if having this kart is your dream, there is no reserve on bringing this “stupendous” dream machine home, where you can finally have the 427 Cobra you always wanted.
