The details for the newest Ford Mustang have been slowly coming out from Ford. Whether it was the price, or when we will actually get them. Ford has kept a tight lid on a lot of the details we all want to know. Now however, the most important numbers are finally out. Horsepower.

The base 3.7L V6 Mustang will actually lose 5hp and keep the exact same torque as the previous generation with 300hp and 280lb-ft of twist.
The GT, with its 5.0L Coyote powerplant will gain 15hp and 10lb-ft going up to 435hp, and 400lb-ft of torque.
The newest engine to the Mustang, the EcoBoost 2.3L, receives 310hp and 320lb-ft of torque.
What is interesting about these numbers are the two smaller engines. We always knew the Coyote would be a beast, so that’s nothing worth reporting, but the fact that the smallest engine has more horsepower than the V6 is kind of crazy, and in my opinion, kind of stupid on Ford’s part.  If you have a 4cylinder twin turbo charged engine that makes more horsepower than your own V6, why even have the V6 as an option. The EcoBoost will get better mpg’s be faster due to it being lighter, and it has better numbers. There is literally no reason for the V6 anymore.

The new 2015 Mustang will be hitting showrooms right around late fall to early next year, we will have to see if Ford’s V6 gamble will actually pay off, or will be the death of the V6 Mustang.
