We don’t see these wheels often, but when we do, they almost always look great!

Nothing transforms the look of your Mustang quite like a new set of wheels. Each body style has its own selection of popular wheels, with most of them coming from factory special editions. Even the most popular wheels can look fresh and unique on the right car, with the right finish.

One of our members, Ipartida19, did something a little out of the ordinary on his early SN95 Mustang GT. He found himself a set of stock 1999 SVT Cobra wheels, and they look great on his white coupe. Frankly, we’re not sure why these wheels aren’t more popular.

Their simple five-spoke design looks terrific, easily as handsome as the classic Cobra R style. Just about everyone we know has had a set of Cobra Rs on a Mustang, but we can’t remember seeing anything but a stock ’99 Cobra with these wheels.

Indeed, part of the appeal of Ipartida19’s Mustang is the wheels. They’re unique without being overdone. However, these wheels simply weren’t unique enough for him — no, he had to try something different with them.

Something Different

Instead of the stock silver finish, Ipartida19 spray painted them a nice metallic gray. It appears to be a similar shade to the anthracite color used on the ever-popular Bullitt wheels. Here, it adds a nice contrast to his Mustang GT’s white exterior. We can’t say we’ve ever seen these wheels painted up like this.

We like the look, but what do our Mustang Forums members think? Somewhat sheepishly, Ipartida19 titled his thread “Did I just ruin 99 SVT rims?” We certainly don’t think so, and, apparently, our members agree.

Everyone really seems to like the dark color, especially with the white paint. In fact, the only somewhat negative feedback he received was about his Mustang’s 4×4-esque ride height. Ipartida19 clarified that the photos were taken with the car still on jack stands — but he does plan on getting a set of lowering springs soon.

SN95s really benefit from lowering springs. It makes a huge difference in the car’s overall presence and improves handling, too. Just make sure that you couple your lowering springs with a set of camber plates to give you the range of adjustment you need for a perfect alignment.

If you’re looking for a set of these wheels for yourself, they were standard equipment of 1999 and 2001 Mustang SVT Cobras. Additionally, they also came on 2003 and 2004 Mustang GT Premiums, in a chrome finish with tri-bar pony center caps. They’re a great looking wheel, and we’d like to see them on more Mustangs!
