‘Mustang Forums’ Member Shows Off Triple Black SVT Cobra
We just can’t get enough of all the clean SN95s our members post to the Mustang Forums.
We’ve been noticing a trend here at Mustang Forums. It seems that our members keep coming out of the woodwork with great-looking SN95s, and we can’t get enough of ’em. We’re like a kid who just discovered the soft-serve machine at the buffet. Keep ’em coming, people.
Today’s entry comes to us from Mustang Forums member Poco, who hails from Colorado. Poco’s got himself a gorgeous triple black 1997 Mustang SVT Cobra convertible.
With 305 horsepower on tap from the all-aluminum, four-valve 4.6 liter Modular V8, power isn’t a concern right away for new SN95 Cobra owners. A big concern, however, is ride height. Ford’s Special Team put some seriously beefy springs up front from the factory.
As a result, these cars handle surprisingly well in stock form, but they sit like 4x4s. Seriously. We’ve seen egg-shaped mommy-mobile crossovers with less ground clearance than a stock SN95 Cobra.

Poco got the party started with a lowering kit from Eibach, which brought the car back down to Earth where it belongs. It’s a Mustang, not a Mercedes-Benz — there’s no need to stick its nose up in the air at passing traffic.
Poco didn’t stop the handling upgrades there, however — he also added beefier sway bars, and upgraded shocks and struts. Like we said, SN95 Cobras handle pretty well from the factory, but a lowering kit and a little more suspension work makes a big difference.
If we could make a few suggestions for Poco, it would be a panhard bar and subframe connectors. A panhard bar solves a major problem with solid axle cars — excess lateral movement. Similarly, the subframe connectors drastically reduce chassis flex — a real concern on all SN95s, but especially convertibles.
Coupled with his existing suspension upgrades, these two mods would transform his Cobra from a solid street machine into a road course terror. of course, street driving would be improved considerably as well.
Poco shared two sets of photos of his Cobra — one with staggered five spokes, the other with 10th Anniversary SVT wheels from the 2003 SVT Cobra. We aren’t sure which we like best — both look great on his gorgeous Cobra convertible. If you’ve got an opinion on the matter, you should go respond to his thread and let him know!
