Mustang Fastback Turns Empty Loading Dock Lot Into Skid Pad

Instagrammer’s sinister Mustang Fastback leaves white smoke in the air and black streaks on the pavement.

Whenever we get a Ford Mustang to review, especially a fastback model with a V8 under the hood, we always have the urge to do wild things in it. After all, a Mustang is always more attractive when it’s smoking (its tires). Unfortunately, cops look down on doing burnouts and donuts in public so that leaves either the strip or the track for high-horsepower hijinks. The good news is that the guy in this Instagram video from mustang_life_gt1 found a wide-open spot to horse around in a badass Mustang.

Judging by the looks of the car hooning in the lot behind a semi loading dock, particularly its front clip, lighting, and side pipes, it appears to be an Eleanor-esque creation. However, unlike the Eleanor from the Nicolas Cage version of Gone in 60 Seconds from 2000, it’s darker and doesn’t have the pair of massive auxiliary lights up front or bright silver wheels.

On the other hand, the fastback does have its silver screen cousin’s tendency to burn rubber. And just like the Eleanor from the movie, this Mustang has a driver with a heavy right foot. The man behind the wheel makes great use of the ample space available to him and slides fully into frame sideways, V8 roaring at full intensity in the open space. After feeding in more steering lock, he adds even more throttle, turning the back end of his car into a rolling smoke show. He soon zooms away in a hero’s exit, rocketing off screen with a thick tail of white smoke behind him.

The clip doesn’t show the inside of the Mustang, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a big, red GO-BABY-GO button on the shifter. Perhaps footage of that being used will eventually surface one in another Instagram post.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
