Mustang Mach 1 Used to Promote 76ers Throwback Uniforms
Ford’s iconic pony has been used imagery for decades, and this Philadelphia 76ers NBA photoshoot is another prime example.
There is no question as to how iconic the Ford Mustang is. It appears in all kinds of movies, photoshoots, and music videos when they are trying to capture a specific time period. From the ’60s on to the 2000s, you can find older generation mustangs as a landmark to keep the mindset of the time period.
The NBA just put an awesome-looking promo including Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers leaning on a 1969 Mustang Mach 1. The photoshoot is to promote their new throwback uniforms. The uniforms are based on the ones the 76ers used in 1970, thus making it impeccably appropriate to include the legendary Mach 1.
“We are excited to unveil this season’s Classic Edition uniform, presented by StubHub, which celebrates the city’s rich history and how it has evolved over time,” Philadelphia 76ers President Chris Heck said in a recent press statement.
The Seventy Sixers’ ‘Classic’ Edition uniforms for the 2019-20 season will pay homage to 1970-71, a campaign that marked the culmination of over two decades of sterling, persistent success for the franchise.
Led by the trio of Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer, and Archie Clark, the club made the playoffs for the 22nd consecutive season – an NBA record that still stands.” states the NBA website.
It’ll never get old to see a Mustang tied to great historic events. It should come as no surprise, though. For many growing up, the Mustang is the first car that sticks with them. It’s as tradition in the US as baseball, apple pie, or in this case, basketball!
To really seal the deal, some of the released photos include some editing to make the photos look old school and grainy. The release has been causing quite a stir in the basketball community! The twitter account for Ballislife shared one of the released photos.

Overall, when trying to recreate the feel of a certain time period, it’s hard to beat throwing in a Mustang or two to really gain that nostalgia.
