2013 Ford Mustang Ranked Top 5 in Highest Value Retention

When one thinks about long-lasting and high value retention vehicles, cars like the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, and other run-of-the-mill Japanese models generally come to mind. But what about the Ford Mustang?

The National Auto Dealers Association (NADA) releases a used-car guide every October, in which it publishes their annual 3-year-old vehicle value retention report. In simple terms, they analyze values for 2013-model-year cars, and publish the ones that retained the most, as well as the least value.

While no one is too surprised to see vehicles with cult-like followings such as the Toyota FJ Cruiser, and safety icons like Subaru, it’s impressive to see Land Rover, Porsche, and of course, the Ford Mustang. We all love the Mustang, but haven’t necessarily purchased one for investment purposes, right?

These are the five highest ranked 2013-model-year value retention performers by segment, as rated by the NADA:

  1. Toyota FJ Cruiser – Non-Luxury SUV/Truck – 92.5% of value retained
  2. Land Rover Range Rover – Luxury SUV/Truck – 67.8% of value retained
  3. Subaru XV Crosstrek – Non-Luxury Car – 63.3% of value retained
  4. Ford Mustang – Non-Luxury Sports Car – 60.7% of value retained
  5. Porsche 911 (997) – Luxury Sports Car – 57.9% of value retained

These are their five lowest ranked 2013-model-year value retention performers by segment:

  1. Smart FORTWO – Subcompact Car – 24.8% of value retained
  2. Suzuki Kizashi – Mid-Size Car – 26.7% of value retained
  3. Suzuki SX4 – Compact Car – 29.5% of value retained
  4. Suzuki Grand Vitara – Compact Utility – 30.1% of value retained
  5. Chevrolet Impala – Large Car – 30.6% of value retained

Next time you’re in the market for a Mustang and your wife tells you to get a family car, remind her that you’re simply making a responsible purchase!
