Ford is on a mission to have the most performance oriented lineup of cars on the planet. And so far, the company has done a brilliant job at creating just that. With cars like the Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Focus RS, Raptor, and the new Mustang, Ford is crushing it when it comes to leading performance vehicles. However, according to Ford, there is room for improvement. That’s why we are getting the new Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs.

Using a naturally aspirated 5.2L flat-plane crank V8, the new Shelby GT350 twins are set to become the performance cars of the year. They have carbon wheels, carbon brakes, 500+ horsepower, and enough sticky tires to rip up concrete if you drop the clutch. Everything about the car that has made its way to the public has us wanting more and more.

And now, the video below has pushed us over the edge. Watch as a brand new, 2016 Shelby GT350R does a hot lap at the Grattan Raceway with Ford’s test driver, Steve Thompson, at the wheel. It looks absolutely brilliant, sounds thunderously explosive, and seems properly poised to take on Chevy’s Z/28 Camaro.
