Roush Performance Unleashes 2017 Mustang GT P-51

Legendary P-51 Mustang fighter plane inspired this 725-horsepower beast.

The 2018 Ford Mustang might be all the buzz right now, with all the cool enhancements made to the new model. But there is certainly still a lot love for the 2017 model.

Just ask the team at Roush Performance, who recently introduced a new series of P-51 Mustangs, based on the 2017 Mustang GT chassis. It cranks out a growling 727 horsepower, as highlighted in a Detroit News report. That huge power boost to the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 comes courtesy of a Phase 2 Roushcharger, and a turbocharger with Eaton TVS technology.

Additionally, the 2017 Mustang GT P-51 also gets a carbon-fiber rear decklid spoiler, carbon-fiber front splitter, special hood paint, and custom P-51 Mustang badging. Unique performance features include a low-temperature radiator and a Roush Active Exhaust System.

Roush’s latest creation rides on Roush TrakPak matte-black forged 19-inch Weld wheels and a set of Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires. Stopping power is provided by PFC performance brake rotors and pads.

Never one to shortchange the inside, Roush has also added a number of unique features in the car’s cockpit. Those include custom P-51 Amaretto Tuscany leather seats, Roush Performance pedals, and a red Roush shifter ball.

Sound like your kind of Mustang? Well, be prepared to tack on another $42,000 to the price of the base GT. But then again, you had to figure all those extras would come at a fairly significant cost, right?
