Robert Downey Jr. ditches his Audi R8 for some American muscle.

Robert Downey Jr. is best known for playing Tony Stark in the Iron Man series. In the films, when he isn’t in the Iron Man suit, he’s usually piloting an Audi R8. But Downey’s taste in cars extends to his personal collection. As CarToq reports, Downey Jr. has an impressive stable, including a ’67 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, an Audi R8, Ferrari California T, and Nissan GT-R, among others.

He’s especially fond of muscle cars. At this year’s SEMA Show, SpeedKore, a Wisconsin-based aftermarket company that specializes in Mustangs, unveiled a heavily-modified 1970 Boss 302. And according to Motor Authority, it was built with the help of Downey himself.

The Boss 302 retains the look of the original but with a number of modern touches. There’s a set of HRE wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires. The hood, bumpers, fenders, front spoiler, and deck lid are all made out of carbon fiber. The suspension has also been updated, as well, and there’s an aluminum frame from Detroit Speed to keep everything together.

But the real magic lies under the hood. A Ford Performance Aluminuator 5.0-liter V8 has been installed and upgraded with a Stage 2 Ford Performance/Roush supercharger. It puts its grunt down to the rear wheels through a Bowler T56 transmission and a nine-inch Ford rear differential. Even if its specs haven’t been revealed, we figure the power must be immense.

SpeedKore worked its magic on the Mustang’s interior too. There’s a bespoke steering wheel in brown leather, an air conditioning system from Vintage Air, and contrasting material for the dashboard, seats, and panels.

It may not be Iron Man’s R8, but we think this Boss 302 is the perfect car for a superhero.
