With just bolt-ons, Derek Venable took his 2013 Shelby GT500 to 193.6 mph from a standing start in just one mile at the world famous Texas Mile land-speed racing event (LSR). How’s that for impressive? The stock car went 174.7 mph, which is impressive, but the RevanRacing.com bolt-on mods added 150 whp and 19 mph in the standing mile.

That Shelby nameplate, which in case you haven’t noticed we are huge fans of here at the Mustang Source, now holds a distinction shared by no other automaker on the planet. The iconic racing brand is the only company to have a car preserved by the Library of Congress for being significant to American history.

With all the buzz over the 2015 Mustang, we tend to forget that the Ford nameplate isn’t the only car beloved by Mustang fans celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.
The iconic Shelby Cobra, which has been as much a part of Mustang history as the pony itself over the years, is also celebrating five decades of road performance with the 289 FIA. And to commemorate the milestone, Shelby American is offering 50 new limited-edition models of the Shelby 289 FIA.

Sure, just about all Mustang fans revel in the idea of performance on some level or they probably wouldn’t be driving one of the Ford pony cars – especially when it comes to the later models.

Shelby American Inc. took the floor during a press day of the LA Auto Show to unveil the new Shelby GT.
“The Shelby GT was one of the most important vehicles in modern Shelby history,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Ever since the Shelby GT went out of production, people have clamored for its return.”
The iconic Shelby GT package, which is making a comeback after first debuting in 2007, features a host of performance upgrades for 2011 to 2014 Mustang models in what the company’s official press release touts as from “mild to wild.”

With the anticipation for the launch of the new 2015 Mustang building, practically any and everything around the iconic Ford pony car takes on a more significant meaning.
The Ford display at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show highlights that with everything from a tribute to a classic Shelby to the Mustang set to star in the “Need for Speed” movie that hits theaters in early 2014.
