The Super Snake is Back to Bite Again
Ford hasn’t released a successor to the GT500 yet, but Shelby American has you covered with an impressively upgraded GT.
If you’ve been anxiously awaiting Ford’s follow-up to the excellent S550 Shelby GT500 Mustang, there’s no need. Shelby American will be happy to do the job for you. Shelby American has just announced the 2024 Shelby Super Snake package, based on the new S650 Mustang. With a base price of $159,995, it’s certainly not cheap – but with over 830 horsepower on tap, we doubt they’ll have trouble finding riders to hop in the saddle.
Instead of using an existing Ford-built Shelby Mustang as a base, the 2024 Super Snake uses a Mustang GT Premium. From there, Shelby adds a host of high-performance options. Under the hood, you’ll find a supercharger system, as well as substantial cooling system upgrades. Buyers will also get a unique Shelby by Borla exhaust.
Drivetrain upgrades are also part of the package, and Shelby American has considered every detail. Of course, there’s a short throw shifter, but you also get a one-piece driveshaft, upgraded half shafts, and even hardened wheel studs. Power is nothing without control, so the suspension and braking system have been comprehensively upgraded as well. The performance upgrades are rounded out with a set of unique 20″ forged magnesium wheels, as well as tires spec’d by Shelby for performance driving.
She’s Got the Look
A big part of the Shelby mystique is the look, and Shelby American nailed it on the 2024 Super Snake. A subtle lip kit covers the bumpers and skirts, while an aluminum Super Snake hood with carbon fiber heat extractors is held in place with racy-looking hood pin locks. Buyers can choose between a duckbill spoiler or a larger carbon fiber wing. Naturally, dual racing stripes and Super Snake graphics are part of the package. It wouldn’t be a Shelby without stripes, after all.
While the GT Premium already has a very nice interior, it gets the full Super Snake treatment as well. This includes embroidered floor mats, a shifter ball, unique door sill plates, as well as serialized dash plaques on the interior and the engine. There’s also a set of dress-up Super Snake fluid caps in the engine bay. If you opt for a convertible, you’ll get a light bar, while coupes get treated to tinted windows.
All of this doesn’t come cheap, as we mentioned. Of the $159,995 base price, $100,555 represents the Super Snake Package. The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is available in six colors – Atlas Blue, Iconic Silver, Oxford White, Race Red, Rapid Red, and Shadow Black. Stripes can be selected in black, blue, white, or silver. We’ll probably order one for ourselves once we decide on a color.
