Throwback Thursdays: The First Mustang TV Ad

Mustang TV Ad

Not only has the Mustang come a long way since 1964, but the ads for the car have come a long way as well.

The video below, posted by lookyhereman, captures every bit of that ’60s spirit that was used to market and promote the first Mustang, making the one-minute spot a classic in its own right.

And while the pitch for the car was pretty basic by today’s ad standards, the advertisement certainly did convey the idea that the Mustang was bringing something different to market. Or as the ad puts it, the coming of the “unexpected.”

Described in the spot as a “new generation of Ford,” the Mustang was pitched as a car that offered Americans something more unique in the car market.

Who would have guessed that some 50 years later the Mustang would be one of the best-selling nameplates on the planet?
