Wheelstanding Beater Bomb Fox Body Wows
This “Beater Bomb” Fox Body Is Hiding a Big Power Secret
There is something great about a car that looks like it can barely make it down the street and back, while hiding big power under the hood. In the world of grudge racing, you don’t ever disclose elapsed times, you don’t ever disclose trap speeds, and you don’t ever disclose what kind of drivetrain setup you’re running. Based entirely on outward appearance, you’d never expect this notchback Fox to be capable of anything this side of tens. But in reality, the “Beater Bomb” hides the power of an atomic bomb. Classed in the “small tire” drag radial category, this Mustang is capable of pavement-pounding, wheel-standing power. And that is exactly what makes it awesome.

The video above begins with the owner, Joey, telling us that his car has a stock 5-liter heater. But it’s immediately obvious that the car is far from stock. It features at least one large turbocharger (with some form of anti-lag launch control), a few shots of nitrous oxide, and some kind of sequential shifter mechanism. No matter what exactly is under the hood, though, it spits flames, it sounds like hell on earth, and it makes this Fox stand up when the lights turn green.
At this round of the “No Prep Drag Racing Series,” this forced-induction ‘Stang turns run after run against the opposition, taking down all comers. With a burnout to warm the tires, a pop-and-crackle brake stand, a few flames spit from the turbo’s dump pipe, and a near-perfect reaction time, Joey and his Mustang are halfway down the strip before you can even blink. This is one hell of a quick car, and we can’t help but love it.
