YouTuber’s GT500 Smoked by Yellow Fox-body Pony

The Shelby may have tons of firepower, but it couldn’t out-fox the Mustang built for the daughter of TGK Motorsports founder.

The Fox-body Mustang is a popular platform for building whatever one desires. Aside from daily driving, the third-gen pony can run with the rest on the quarter-mile, sling itself through the cones at the autocross, and drift through the corners on the road course. The aftermarket is bursting with parts as far as the eye can see, and there’s no sign of that stopping anytime soon.

But could one build a Fox-body to take on the new hotness coming from Ford known as the Shelby GT500? The host of YouTube’s StangMode would soon find out, thanks to a good friend of his.

GT500 vs Fox-Body Mustang

“I do love Mustangs,” the YouTuber says, “but I admittedly do not know much about the Fox-body. It’s a very famous Mustang, a very popular Mustang […] Those pesky Fox-bodies, I can never figure them out. I don’t know them too well. They’re either super-fast or super-pedestrian.”

Out on the quarter-mile of Atco Dragway in Atco, New Jersey, the GT500 fan gets a taste of Fox-body goodness when he goes up against a tan LX. His Grabber Lime super snake puts the bite on the Eighties classic, crossing the line first twice in over 10 seconds at over 130 mph.

That’s just one fox, of course. A badder critter was waiting in the wings for his Shelby.

“It’s a small-block Ford. It’s a 408,” said Giavanna Kasper, the daughter of TGK Motorsports founder, Todd Kasper. “I’m not gonna be using the nitrous today.”

The yellow GT was a gift for Giavanna, though she wasn’t too fond of the paint at first. Over time, the color grew on her, and the power grew from underneath the hood; it’s around 600 horses all-motor according to his unnamed brother. It also was turned into a pro-street beast, one designed for drag-strip domination instead of mowing lawns.

Once all six hood pins are locked in on Giavanna’s Fox-body, both she and the YouTuber rolled out to the Christmas tree to make their run down the quarter-mile. The GT500 has 160 horses more than the yellow pony, but the yellow pony weighs a few hundred pounds less than the otherwise stock Shelby.

The result? The Fox-body not only kept up with the Shelby for a good while, it also passed the new ride to take the win.

“I saw myself red-light,” the YouTuber said. “I was like, ‘Oh, I red-lit.’ We were running a little hot. She ran a 10.4 at 133.”

The tale of the tape shows his GT500 crossed the line in 10.708 seconds at 133.78 mph, while Giavanna’s Fox beat him to the punch in 10.405 seconds at 133.05. We think he knows a bit more about one of the best Mustang generations to ever exist now.
